Worship this past Sunday, 29 November -- our first "homecoming" -- was rich, as was the potluck afterwards. We had 45 adults and 8 children who came, but numbers is not what this was all about. The true reward was the sense of community that we felt. Don't wait for the next homecoming, we'll see you again soon....

The clouds parted and the rain paused just long enough to fit in a whole day of Friends Farm Fair Fun(d)raising on October 17. Westerly Friends Meeting sends warm appreciation for the community outpouring that resulted in $2400 to bring us current in our annual contributions to the VPT mortgage. That's the Fun(d)raising report. Now about the Fun: Charlie started us off with Tai Chi, and Poets shared their work around the fire and on the stage, including Emmett, Jake, Colleen, Rhonda, and Abel. Peg also read from her brand new book about farming in SE New England: "An Acre...

Hello, Friends. Three notes:First, a reminder that Outreach is "hosting" this month's "Meeting for Eating" potluck this Sunday, so there will be lunch for us all after Worship even if you don't have time to prepare a dish to share!Second, a note from our Quarterly Meeting clerk about John Hardiman:Jane, When I read the minutes today everyone was struck by the spirituality of John Hardiman's life. Jonathan Vogel Bourne mentioned his involvement in NEYM as well. The feeling was that his memorial minute may be one we want to send on to NEYM, and we should discern that in April....

John Vincent Hardiman 6 April 1923 - 28 April 2009 Westerly Monthly Meeting lost a Friend, John Vincent Hardiman, when he passed away after a short illness on April 28, 2009. John was a lifelong peace activist, environmentalist, and tireless promoter of social change and justice. One Friend described him as an individualist who was keenly aware of oppression in our society. John was born on April 6, 1923 in Whitesboro, N.Y. to John Arthur Hardiman and Mary Josephine (Soper) Hardiman. He and his siblings were orphaned at a young age. John, perhaps as a result, developed an uncanny ability...

State of Society Westerly Monthly Meeting, February 2009 Westerly Friends Meeting held regular worship services during the course of the past year. The quality of vocal ministry was good and seemed an improvement over some previous years. We are grateful to God and to each other for the opportunities we have to grow in our faith because of this community of listening, sensitive people who give each other support and encouragement. In an effort to listen to and support our young families, we decided that First Day School would not meet every Sunday but rather two Sundays a...
